Parent Engagement Group - P.E.G.
The Parent Engagement Group or P.E.G. is a chance for parents/carers of children with special educational needs to meet together and discuss educational issues and concerns.
The P.E.G. meets once at term at The Mount Educational Support Centre, Mount Avenue, Penkhull, Stoke-on-Trent, ST4 7 JU. The meetings usually last for between 1 and 2 hours.
The main aims of the group are:
- To act as a central point for information exchange between service users/service providers
- To give parents/carers an opportunity to air concerns and share experiences relating to their child's special educational needs
- For parents/carers to become better informed about SEN processes and procedures so that they feel empowered to challenge Local Authority policy and practice
- To provide a practical vehicle for offering feedback to the Local Authority enabling parent/carers views to be heard with regard to SEN and disability issues
- To continually seek to improve the ways that parent/carers can participate in shaping the Local Authority's SEN and Disability policy development
The next P.E.G. meeting will be held on 22nd February 2012, 10am - 12pm. Visiting speakers will include the Strategic Manager for Inclusion as well as representatives from the Educational Psychology SErvice and Education Welfare Service. All parents of children with SEN are welcome!
